Where To Find Your Analytics

There’s much more to posting on social media than meets the eye! We have to think about strategy and planning but also how to measure the success of each of the things we post/sell/launch or announce. Analytics can see like a daunting task especially when you’re not really sure what you’re looking for. So here’s our top tips on reading your analytics.

Plus as you’re all VIP members, you’ll have a template to see all of your analytics in a more digestible format!

Setting Goals

When it comes to setting social goals sometimes we can be hitting a huge stab in the dark, as it’s not possible to predict how many people will love your page or product. But don’t be disheartened by this! Just like we cannot safely predict how many products we will sell in a year, we also cannot predict how our following will grow. The best way to deal with this is to set goals for what you CAN control.

How about setting goals like ‘one post a day for a month’ and see how that affects your analytics/sales? Or maybe set a goal to run a competition every month to see if that shows a boost in your engagement. It’s all about trial and error, and although we all have the goal of 1 million followers, lets set smaller ones to help us get there.

Facebook Analytics

I’m guessing a lot of you have a love hate relationship with Facebook pages and the use of it for business? Reading your analytics can often be a case of what you want to focus on but lets take a look at the most important ones.

First of all Page Likes, now this will depend on a few factors. Facebook pages gain new likes when their posts are spread to users that don’t like or engage with the page. So for example, you share a post, a user comments tagging their friend, it shows up on both friends newsfeeds and 3 new people find your page and give it a like. All modes of people liking your page wherever they come from will be recorded, even those from paid Ad promotions.

Page Reach is how many accounts you’ve managed to reach with your page/posts and the more this goes up the more you’re likely to gain new likes! You can also change the date range you look at up in the top corner so you can look at the growth over 7 days, one month, 2 months, whatever you choose. All of the options for in depth analytics are in the side bar and just pick out the most important ones to go into your Analytics Report.

Instagram Analytics

These ones can be slightly easier to read. Instagram has little infographics that show you all of the main information, however they only compare it to the previous 7 days. There is no Instagram API to look back on previous data if you don’t have an external programme to record this for you. If you want to keep the data, it’s best to write down or record somewhere the numbers once a week so you can compare them to the previous month.

So what’s important to look at? (Find it all in your settings menu, under ‘Insights’)

Followers is of course the big one here, and you can see the amount of follows AND unfollows, however don’t fret too much about the unfollows. Instagram removes bot/spam/ghost accounts daily, so the more followers you have the more you can expect this to happen. As annoying as it is, it’s better to have a more concentrated group of followers that is smaller, but they are actual people that can engage, recommend and buy.

Reach - the number of accounts that have seen any of your posts

Impressions - the total number of times that all of your posts have been seen

Both of the above can differ depending on the amount you post, the engagement and so on. Instagram rewards accounts with higher engagement, meaning they are more likely to turn up in the explore page and on your followers’ feed. There is so much more to the ‘algorithm’ but that’s a post for another day!

We have covered the basics! (and hopefully your brain hasn’t exploded yet …..)

All of this can be recorded in your MDM Monthly Report Template, then simply print this off and use it to look back on to compare your growth and track your progress!!
